Michael Rosen, an English poet, scriptwriter, broadcaster, and performer, has been writing for children since 1970. My son could listen to this story all day. "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" does just that, takes the reader on an adventure they'll never forget. Children love the obstacles the characters run into on their way to finding a bear. Each page has beautifully illustrated pictures with breezy colors. It's good for young children who are learning to talk, as well as, those who are learning to read. The story uses repetitive language which is wonderful for young readers and children who are building their vocabulary. We like to do the actions with the characters as they go through the wilderness and bring the adventure to life. A side note, my son likes to watch the animated version on our kindle through Amazon Free Time.
Yes, the selection says it's a board book, but it's not. It's a cardstock pop-up book that is WAY too flimsy for a young child (like my 20 month old)--my husband even thinks it's too fragile for him. So, if you're looking for a board book, look elsewhere.If you're looking for a small, cardstock pop-up book, it's cute and seems well made. But it really isn't a board book for young children.
This was my favorite when I was little. I always loved the art, the poetic and rythmic story, and the feel of the thick pages. My older brothers loved it, too. Now that I'm about to have a little one, I bought the book for my son, and I am SO excited to read it with him. My husband didn't grow up with it, but as soon as he read through it, he fell in love with it, too. It's hard not to enjoy- it's kid-friendly without looking like a rainbow puked in it. The art is enjoyable for all ages. It's just perfect.
My daughter loves this book! It became her favorite when she was 3 and we read it every night. Now, I purchase it as a gift for friend's kids and pair it with a teddy. This book is a classic!
This is grandpa’s favorite book to read the little ones. It is especially fun if you motions to go along with sounds of each place they go through - the grass, the water, the woods, etc. Then you make them all (spoiler alert!) really quickly at one when going back from the bear cave.
My two year old granddaughter loves this book. Years ago I used to take my "little" brothers on a Bear Hunt. Until recently I did not know there was a book with the title and story. Great investment.
Great book! I had this in paperback but wanted to read it to my 7 month old so also got it in a board book :-) I love reading it as a song! Some black and white and some color pages.
My wife grew up hearing this song at camp and introduced it to me when we were dating in college. We had no idea it was a book though until we had our daughter and after she turned 2 I stumbled onto it on Amazon. As soon as I saw it, I bought it and had it shipped to my wife and daughter while they were on an extended visit with her parents. They were all delighted. My wife read the book with great nostalgia, and through it, has passed this cherished family tradition onto our now 3 year old daughter who has adopted the book as one of her favorites. It would not surprise me if one day, many years from now, our daughter finds this book in a dusty chest, and reads it with similar nostalgia to her own kids. That is the kind of book this is, one that will surely become a family treasure and keepsake.Just one note on the story itself. I agree with the other reviewers that it is full of excitement and adventure, but I would be hesitant to say it's scary. It could certainly be so for some kids, so parents take care and exercise your own common sense and caution, but my daughter has loved the book and never been frightened by it since she started having it read to her when she was about 24 months old. Otherwise, I agree with the other reviewers in every way. The rhyme, the pictures, the sound effects, everything about this book just comes together magically and wonderfully. I highly recommend it.
